I don’t live in WA. Can I still do my White Card Training Online?
After 19th July 2019, online white card training will only be available to new students who are physically located in WA.

After 19th July 2019, online white card training will only be available to new students who are physically located in WA.
If you register for an online white card after 19th July 2019 you’ll need to:
- Acknowledge that you understand you will only be issued with a white card if you are physically located in WA at the time of assessment
- Confirm and provide evidence that you are physically located in WA at the time of assessment*
- Provide the address in WA where the assessment was undertaken, and
- Agree to participate, where requested, in audit activities by DMIRS to Confirm that you were physically located in WA at the time of assessment
Is my old White Card still valid?
Yes, if you have successfully completed a previous course (such as CPCCOHS1001A Work safely in the construction industry) and received your white card, that card is still valid. Under the current legislation, white cards do not expire but it is recommended that you refresh your knowledge by completing a new course if you have been absent from the construction industry for more than 2 years.
Can I complete the verbal assessment over the phone?
Unfortunately, not for the new unit, in accordance with the unit of competency, CPCWHS1001 Prepare to work safely in the construction industry, assessment of performance evidence must be done by direct observation of the learner by an assessor, either by an assessor observing the learner physically and/or by an assessor observing the learner via audio and visual media in real time.
What equipment do I need access to?
For the new CPCWHS1001 unit, you must complete the verbal assessment via live video link in accordance with the unit of competency; therefore, you must have access to a video-enabled device (such as a smartphone, tablet or webcam). You will be required to book a slot using our online booking system and then complete the assessment using Zoom at your allotted time.
The CPCWHS1001 unit of competency also explicitly states that the person completing the course must demonstrate correctly fitting to themselves the following PPE; Eye protection, hearing protection, hard hat, high visibility retroreflective vest.

You may supply your own PPE; however, it must be actual PPE e.g. no caps, regular spectacles, non-reflective jackets etc. You must have access to all of the PPE items prior to attempting your video assessment.
You will also need a reliable internet connection and a device with working webcam in order to complete the assessment online. You will be required to be connected to an assessor for approximately 20 minutes and must be able to access your screen during the assessment as you will need to answer questions based on images and scenarios provided by the assessor.
All students will also be required to complete a student declaration, for new CPCWHS1001 white cards, an observer is not required and it can be signed either electronically or printed, signed manually and scanned.
I live outside Australia. Can I do this course before I arrive?
Yes, you are able to complete all elements of the course and assessments from another country, provided you have a reliable internet connection, as long as you register before 5pm AEST 19th July 2019 and finalise your course by 5pm 13th September 2019.
However, if you are completing the new CPCWHS1001 white card, you will need PPE consisting of eye protection, hearing protection, hard hat and high visibility retro reflective vest – see above.
Online white card training will no longer be available to new students after 19th July, (except to residents of WA) so you will not be able to complete the course from outside Australia before you arrive.
How do I access the video verbal assessment?
The video verbal assessment is required for the new CPCWHS1001 white card. You must complete the verbal assessment via live video link in accordance with the unit of competency; you will be required to book a slot using our online booking system and then complete the assessment using Zoom at your allotted time.
Will I be connected to the video verbal assessment straight away?

Can I come in and do the whole course at the National Head Office?
Unfortunately, no. We are an online provider only. We do not supply in-house training, and white cards cannot be collected from our office.
Can I come in and do the video verbal assessment at your offices?
While it is not advised, we may be able to accommodate you at our Spring Hill offices in Brisbane; as long as you register before 5pm AEST 19th July 2019 and finalise your course by 5pm 13th September 2019. You will need to call and arrange a time in advance as the assessment can take up to 30 minutes and assessor may not be available at all times. You would be required to bring your photo ID and your PPE with you as we do not supply PPE at our offices.
After 19th July 2019, online white card training will only be available to students who are physically located in WA at the time of assessment, so we will not be able to conduct the video verbal assessment at our Brisbane office.
Does the video program work on all devices?
Yes, in most cases you will be able to complete the assessment in a browser window using Zoom without the need to download or install anything.

What are the LLN requirements for this course?
The language, literacy, numeracy and employment skills that are essential to successfully complete all elements of this course (as outlined in the unit of competency) are:
- Numeracy skills to locate and recognise numbers commonly used in safety signs.
- Oral communication skills to ask questions to clarify instructions and listen to instructions to identify key safety information and tell another person about a construction problem or hazard.
- Reading skills to follow simple pictorial safety instructions and follow simple safety instructions that are written in English.
- Writing skills to complete a basic form, an
- Problem-solving skills to select risk control measures.
You will be required to write basic information in English and answer detailed questions either via video link on a series of construction-related topics such as hazard and risk controls, safety documentation and the roles of safety personnel; therefore, you must have a sound understanding of the English language and be able to communicate in English without assistance from another person (including a translator).
Is there a limit on the number of times I can attempt the assessments?
You can attempt the knowledge assessments multiple times; however, you must answer all questions correctly in a single attempt in order to pass.
The video verbal assessment element of the new CPCWHS1001 white card has a time limit of 30 minutes, if you are unable to successfully complete the assessment in this timeframe, the assessment will be stopped and counted as an attempt. You will be allowed 2 attempts to complete the assessment, if you are unable to successfully complete the verbal assessment within 2 attempts, you will be required to re-sit the course content.
You may also be required to provide evidence of having improved your proficiency with the English language. Evidence is deemed to be in the form of either a copy of your results, Statement of Attainment, Certificate of Completion, a record of attendance or a statement letter from a qualified ESL tutor (must have a business header). The evidence must be in the form of original or a certified copy stating ‘this is a true and correct copy of the original’ and signed by a Justice of the Peace.
How long does it take to do the course?
The online course covers the required nominal (face-to-face) six hours of content. However, due to the efficiencies of online learning, we find most people take approximately 2-4 hours to complete the course content and approximately 1-2 hours to complete the assessments (knowledge, written and video verbal assessment for new CPCWHS1001 white card).
The online course content and knowledge assessments are available online 24 hours a day, and you can start and stop the course as many times as you like. Your completed work will be saved and ready for you when you start again. The assessment centre (for completion of your video verbal assessment) is available between 8 am and 4.45pm Monday to Friday AEST.
Timings for remote training will vary depending on class size and individual student needs.
Does this replace the Blue, Red and Green Cards?
In 2009 the unit of competency “CPCCOHS1001A Work safely in the construction industry” was released. This unit replaced state based construction industry general safety induction training.
In 2016, CPCCOHS1001A was replaced with CPCCWHS1001 Prepare to work safely in the construction industry.
And, in 2022, CPCCWHS1001 was replaced with CPCWHS1001 Prepare to work safely in the construction industry, this is the current unit that must be completed to obtain a new white card.
If you have a Blue, Red or Green card we recommend you check with your state regulatory body, such as Worksafe QLD or SafeWork NSW, to see if your card is still valid.
How much is the course?
The cost will depend on what extras you choose to include.

For an extra $15.00 (Inc. GST) you can upgrade to Priority Service on either WA or QLD cards.
Once I finish the course how long does it take to receive my White Card?
Once your course, assessments and documentation are finalised, your card will be posted out via surface mail within 3-5 working days if you have not selected priority service (see below for information on our priority service option).
What is the Optional Priority Service Upgrade?
For only $15 (Incl GST) you get:
- Priority Card Processing – We Process Your Card in 1-2 business days (Usually only 1 business day)
- Express Post Envelope – Next Day Delivery in Express Post Envelope (Australian Residents Only and subject to Australia Post Conditions)
Please note, priority service relates to the processing and delivery for your card only.
Do my documents need to be certified?
If you have any of the following approved forms of photo ID, you do not need to have them certified as the originals will be cited during your video verbal assessment by our trained assessors; approved photo ID includes:
- A current and valid driver’s licence issued by an Australian state or territory; or
- An 18 plus card; or
- A current and valid passport; or
- A student/school identity card
If you do not have access to one of these acceptable forms of photo ID, you must submit three (3) ID documents to confirm your identity, at least one (1) of which shall bear the current address of the participant, as contributing to proof of ID. As these are not forms of photo ID, each copy will need to be certified by an appropriate person (click here for further information). These can include but not limited to:
- Medicare card
- Birth certificate
- Credit card statement
- Land title record
- Rates notice
- Utility account or
- Landline phone account
Who is “authorised” to “certify” my Identification?
If you are completing the new white card (CPCWHS1001) and you do not have a photo ID, your ID documents must be certified.
Each copy will need to be certified by a Justice of the Peace (JP), Commissioner for Declarations or legal practitioner as being true and correct copies of the original after having sighted such original.

When do I need to upload my ID?
For the new white card (CPCWHS1001), you must upload your ID and have it finalised by our support team before you can attempt your video verbal assessment. The reason for this is that our assessors will use your ID to confirm your identity during the assessment.
Which White Cards do you issue?
We issue WA White Cards for all online white card training*. If you are completing the white card for a licence or permit please check with your relevant state regulatory body to ensure that the White Card that will be issued to you will be accepted.
After 19th July 2019, online white card training will only be available to new students who are physically located in WA.
If you purchase a White Card course before 5pm AEST 19th July 2019, and you don’t live in WA, you will have until 5pm AEST 13th September 2019 to complete all course, assessment and document requirements in order to receive a White Card.
*You may be able to complete training online and receive a QLD white card if you live in QLD over 100km from the nearest available training centre. Please contact us for more information about remote areas online delivery approval.
Is the card I will receive valid in my State?
All White Cards are Nationally recognised and once you have a card from any State or Territory in Australia then it should be recognised in all other States and Territories of Australia. If you are completing the white card for a licence or permit please check with your relevant state regulatory body to ensure that the White Card that will be issued to you will be accepted.
It’s URGENT! I need it by tomorrow!
Once you have successfully completed the course, including your assessments and feedback, you will have access to your Statement of Attainment immediately. You can print this out at home, library or your employer’s office. In Victoria, QLD and the NT an employer must accept the statement of attainment/certificate as evidence that you have completed the course. However everywhere else, it is up to your employer’s discretion if this is sufficient evidence that you have completed the course, pending the arrival of your card. Your employer is welcome to phone us directly to verify that you have completed the course. For those outside of QLD, NT and VIC once the card has been processed we can supply the White Card number. If you would like a scanned copy please ring us to organise this as we cannot do this once the card has been posted (07 3118 6125).
I have lost my White Card
If your White Card has been lost, stolen or damaged, we may be able to replace it. You will need to provide with a copy of your statement of attainment for either CPCCWHS1001: Prepare to work safely in the construction industry or CPCCOHS1001A: Work safely in the construction industry and complete a declaration form outlining how your card was lost, stolen or destroyed, this is a Government requirement, in order for us to issue your new White Card.
We supply you with the declaration form. We will send you a replacement White Card within a few days, even quicker if you upgrade to the Express Delivery Option. It’s that simple.

How can I pay?
You can pay online via credit or visa debit card. Or over the phone. (American Express is not accepted)
You can also pay by money order or electronic transfer. However, you will have to wait for the money to be cleared into our account before will be able to access the course which could take 2-5 days. Please phone us to organise these methods of payment. (We also accept no responsibility for money orders lost in the post).
Are you a Registered Training Organisation?
Yes, we are a Registered Training Organisation (RTO) and our National Provider number is 31973. Visit the TGA website to view our registration details.
I have paid; however, I can’t get into the course it keeps asking me to pay?
Have you received a copy of your receipt by email?
Please have a look half way down where it says “status”. Does it say approved? Or does it say “Declined”? If it says declined then we have not received any payment and you will need to go through the payment screens again. If you have any further problems please ring us.
Does this course have GST?
No

You might have pop up blockers activated on your computer. You will need to disable the pop-up blockers.
Can I use an Internet Cafe?
Internet Cafe’s are not recommended, as it will be slow and you may lose connection and may have to repeat parts of the course.
Are there any other computer requirements?
Speakers are recommended, although headphones would do. But one of them is compulsory as the Presentation has Audio. You will also need a webcam to complete the video verbal assessment for the new CPCWHS1001 white card.
What type of internet connection is required?
Broadband/Cable Internet is required. 3G Wireless, including the ones having USB Wireless Modems, are NOT recommended. Dial-Up is not suitable, sorry.
What type of web browser and computer can I use?
The supported browsers for this course include Mozilla Firefox and Google Chrome. Your browser should be up to date with the latest version for optimal performance. This course is compatible with desktop computers (screen resolution of at least 1024×768), iPad, iPhone, iPad mini, android tablets and android phones.
Your computer/browser probably already meets all of these requirements. But if you are having any difficulties please contact our support team.
Where can I download the browser plugins?
The following plugins and software are free.
- Mozilla Firefox and Google Chrome – our preferred internet browsers.
- Adobe Flash plugin – required to display the course.
- Adobe Acrobat Reader DC – used to view/print your certificate.

Unique Student Identifier (USI)
Beginning in 2015 if you are undertaking nationally recognised training delivered by a Registered Training Organisation (RTO) you will need to have a Unique Student Identifier (USI). Your USI gives you access to your online USI account which will contain all your nationally recognised training records and results from 1 January 2015 onwards.
If you don’t already have your USI number this can be created easily through the profile section of your account. For more information regarding the USI please visit http://www.usi.gov.au.
